My First Stitch Fix: What I Submitted and What I Received

I heard about Stitch Fix from my friend's mom who thought it was something I would like/could do/ company I could eventually intern with. I thought the idea was great but I was weary and I watched a ton of Youtube videos of people's fixes. I was curious how this would work for someone on a budget and someone as particular as I am. So I signed up, filled out my profile, and ordered one box. Then I had to wait. In my waiting, I watched more videos and read some blog posts but I wondered what all of these woman had submitted in their profile to receive the items they did. Therefore, I intend for this blog post to be a rather extensive showing of what I put in my profile, what I received based on my profile, and my review of the items.

Oldie but a Goodie: A Jackie Kennedy Inspired Outfit

Spring Break. A term that often suggests temporary migration to warmer climates, i.e. Florida, my family and I did just the opposite. As Floridians, we have already had our fair share of humidity, sunshine, and hot temperatures at this point in the year and we welcomed the cold with open arms... well some of us. My family and I travelled up to Charleston where the rain really didn't let up until the day we left. We were so fortunate. With the rain came a chill that, for those without jackets, was unpleasant, but for those with jackets, was refreshing. The rain also caused pieces in my perfectly planned outfits to be swapped around. Specifically, the outfit I had planned to go with this jacket. I was somewhat tempted to just throw on the pieces once more to at least take the pictures for today's post, but that was not an appealing option after everything had been worn in the rain. So my outfit isn't really an outfit but more of a showcase of this coat.

Green with Ivy: Anna's Favorite Thrift Finds

Petal to the Metal: A Floral Outfit

While this outfit lacks the color and vivacity of my inspiration,  I think the metallic adds just enough pizzaz to still be interesting. I bought this shirt in a second-hand store (It wasn't quite a thrift store but it also wasn't that expensive so I'm not sure exactly what to call it)  for $15. My pants are from TJ Maxx on clearance. I had eyed them when they were still full price and almost paid for them because I loved them so much but luckily enough for me they went on clearance and still had my size. On clearance, they were still about $30. My shoes are from Ross and they were also about $30. My clutch was also on clearance at TJ Maxx for about $40. I explain why I spent that much on something so little in this post. The total comes out to about $115 for my whole outfit which is on the pricey side for me, but I definitely think it was worth it and still doable for even less. What do you all think? Blazing Florals: A Paade Mode Inspired Outfit

One thing that I always see at thrift stores is blazers. Goodwill has a whole section of them. While some would probably make a good pillow with the amount of shoulder padding they have, others are actually quite nice and would make a great addition to anyone's wardrobe.

Pleats Please: A Pleated Midi Skirt Outfit

I'll be honest. It took me awhile to figure out how I wanted to wear this skirt. I felt like it was one of those items that, unless I styled it well, would not surprise people when I told them it was thrifted. Therefore, I was especially conscious of the items I was pairing with it. I started with this black short sleeve top, which was also thrifted. I thought it would serve as a nice base for the outfit. I then paired it with my open toed Nine West heels from Ross to add a more feminine and modern flair. Also to make the outfit more modern I put on a statement necklace, which was a gift from a friend.

To top it off, I grabbed my HOBO clutch from TJ Maxx. This clutch was on the pricey side, at least for a clutch, at around $40 on clearance, but it was an item I knew I would get plenty of use out of. I would find that if I went shopping after school, not an unusual activity for me, I would carry my wallet, keys, and phone all in a stack to walk around the store with. Not practical. So when I saw this clutch in TJ Maxx, and after seeing it on Karla Reed's Instagram, I splurged. It was definitely worth the splurge. I love using it because it holds all I need it to and it goes with everything since it's black.

Playing with Plaid: A Plaid Blazer Outfit

For my first outfit, I wanted a more preppy take on plaid. I looked to Alexa Chung for inspiration specifically on the styling and I really like how it turned out. This plaid blazer was $1 at a local thrift store, and my shirt was thrifted from Goodwill. My shorts and tights are from Old Navy, my shoes are from Payless, and my bag is from Ross.

Casual and Collected: An Emma Stone Inspired Outfit

Emma Stone certainly is a master of layering, so when I went to put together an outfit inspired by her, I knew I wanted to include layers. I started with a flannel shirt I got at Goodwill, and then layered a sweater from New York & Company that I had purchased for 50% off. On top of that I wore a jacket I bought during an end of season sale a couple years back at JCPenney and my jeans were a recent sale purchase from JCPenney. The booties were a Black Friday buy at Old Navy this past year so they were also 50% off.

The nice thing about this outfit is that if you know you are going to be hot indoors then you can wear a sleeveless collared shirt as your bottom layer, or wear a thinner sweater. I find that layers definitely make it easier to deal with Florida's bipolar weather. With an outdoor school, I'm going from an overly warm classroom to chilly outdoor weather, and layers like Emma Stone's certainly make these temperature fluctuations less difficult.
